Explora Journeys, Hilton Honors Deepen Luxury Loyalty Tie-Up

Explora Journeys is betting its next generation of luxury cruise travelers has never set foot on a ship — and that Hilton's loyalty program is where it will find them.

Beginning July 9, Hilton Honors members can earn and redeem points on Explora Journeys sailings booked through Hilton, along with a 5 percent fare discount, bonus points earning opportunities, and tier-specific onboard benefits.

While the partnership was first unveiled in late 2025, Hilton leaders say the latest expansion was always the end goal.

"The vision was clear: unlock the ability for members to book with Hilton Honors points, earn points on paid Journey bookings and enjoy perks and privileges based on their membership tier," Mark Weinstein, chief marketing officer and head of luxury brands at Hilton, told Luxury Travel Advisor

Blurred Lines

That end goal, says Anna Nash, president of Explora Journeys, reflects how the lines between luxury hotels and luxury cruises are blurring.

"Today's guests are less interested in traditional travel categories and more interested in exceptional experiences delivered by brands they trust," Nash says. "There is a growing convergence between luxury hospitality on land and at sea."

Hilton is seeing similar shifts in member behavior. According to Weinstein, 61 percent of Hilton Honors members in the U.S. plan to take a cruise within the next 24 months, demonstrating growing demand for loyalty benefits that extend beyond hotels.

"Members want a loyalty program that's flexible and relevant to how they actually travel today," Weinstein adds. "One that extends the value of Hilton Honors well beyond a traditional hotel stay."

Nash says the Hilton Honors partnership is a natural extension of that evolution.

"It introduces Explora Journeys to a highly engaged community of luxury travelers and invites them to discover a new way of experiencing luxury hospitality at sea," she adds.

That strategy appears to be working: More than one-third of Explora Journeys' newer guests have never cruised before, a figure that continues to climb as the luxury cruise line expands its fleet.

"That validates the vision we had from the very beginning," Nash says. "We have always believed there is a significant community of luxury guests who simply had not found an ocean travel experience that reflected their expectations."

Weinstein also sees Hilton Honors as a gateway for members considering their first luxury cruise: More than half of loyalty members say using points would allow them to take a cruise they otherwise wouldn't, and nearly 75 percent say cruises would be a meaningful addition to their Hilton Honors experience.

"Hilton Honors has the potential to be an entry point into luxury ocean travel," he notes.

Rather than persuading travelers to embrace traditional cruising, Nash says, Explora is recreating the experience of staying in a luxury hotel at sea through spacious all-suite accommodations, destination-led itineraries, wellness programming, and personalized service.

"If even a small proportion of Hilton Honors members discover Explora Journeys for the first time and choose to return again, then we will know the partnership is achieving exactly what we hoped," she says.

"Guests return because of how a brand makes them feel," she adds. "If, over the next twelve months, we see more travelers discovering Explora Journeys for the first time, experiencing our brand and then choosing to travel with us again, I would consider this partnership a real success."

Sweeten the Pot

The expanded benefits apply across Explora Journeys' global itineraries, including voyages in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Northern Europe, Iceland, and Greenland, as well as aboard Explora III, which joins the fleet this month.

Hilton Honors members booking through Hilton can earn 10 base points per U.S. dollar spent on eligible fares, redeem points toward voyages, and receive status-based benefits. Gold members are invited to an exclusive welcome cocktail reception with ship leadership, while Diamond members receive additional Journey Experience Credits. Diamond Reserve members also receive private port transfers and, subject to availability, a behind-the-scenes bridge tour.

Although it is still too early to identify booking trends among Hilton Honors members, Nash expects demand to center on the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Northern Europe. She also expects strong interest in Explora III, which she says builds on the brand's luxury positioning through larger outdoor spaces, expanded wellness facilities, and enhanced guest environments.

For travel advisors, Nash emphasizes the partnership is intended to complement, not replace, the advisor channel.

"Our travel advisor community has been at the heart of Explora Journeys since the very beginning," she says. "This partnership helps us reach an audience that already values exceptional hospitality, personalized service and luxury experiences, many of whom may never have considered a cruise before. By growing awareness and purchase intent among this new cohort of travelers, we create more opportunities for our travel advisor partners."

Looking ahead, Nash believes partnerships between hotel loyalty programs and luxury cruise brands will become more common as travelers place greater focus on brand than travel category.

"Luxury guests no longer think in terms of hotels, resorts or ships," she says. "They simply seek exceptional experiences delivered by brands they trust."

Success, she adds, will be measured by bookings — and by whether Hilton Honors members come back for a second sailing.
