Silversea to Build New Luxury Cruise Ship: The Silver Moon

Silversea Cruises and Fincantieri have announced plans for a new cruise ship that will set sail in 2020: the Silver Moon.

The new vessel will be a sibling ship to the Silver Muse, which was delivered in April 2017 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa.

The new ship will have a capacity of 596 passengers in all-suite accommodations, and will expand Silversea's fleet to 10 ships. A number of enhancements to the onboard experience are also planned, Silversea said, although no further details were available at this time.

A “Green Star 3 Design” is among the ship’s most notable features. It is assigned to ships that are designed, built and equipped to prevent air and water pollution. The ship will also have “COMF-NOISE A PAX” and “COMF-NOISE B CREW” designations, which are assigned on the basis of the noise levels measured on the ship.

The Silver Muse set sail in April with a number of new features for the luxury cruise line. Like the Silver Moon, the Silver Muse has a 596 guest capacity, as well as the highest number of large suites (Silver, Royal, Grand and Owner’s) in Silversea’s fleet, plus the highest number of connecting suites for families and friends. The ship also debuted a new two-bedroom Silver Suite configuration, measuring 1,119 square feet. Other notable amenities include eight food and beverage venues, including an exclusive Relais & Châteaux restaurant, plus a Zàgara Beauty Spa.

Since 1990 Fincantieri has built 78 cruise ships, and 55 since 2002, 31 of which are currently being designed or built in the group’s yards.
