Chef Heston Blumenthal to Open Restaurant at Heathrow

Good news for travelers through London’s Heathrow, the world’s third busiest airport in 2013. (According to the airport’s official website, the average is 191,200 passengers arriving and departing every day.) Heston Blumenthal—the star chef behind The Fat Duck and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park—is planning to open a new eatery in Heathrow in June 2014. It will be located inside the brand new Terminal 2, a massive $4 billion project currently under construction.

What’s so interesting about this new joint is its promise to deliver food with a “a turnaround time of 11 minutes from order to cater.” On the menu? Traditional British comfort food like fish and chips, burgers, plus Neapolitan-style pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven. By opening an airport restaurant, Blumenthal follows in the footsteps of other famous chefs Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay. No word yet on the name for Blumenthal’s new spot.
