Foodie Buzz—Historic New York City Steakhouse to Close

Sad news for carnivores in New York City: Crain's is reporting that Gallagher's New York Prime Steakhouse, located at 228 W. 52nd St. in the theater district, will close in January. The restaurant reportedly cited economic reasons in its notice. All 92 of the restaurant's employees are expected to be laid off.

Gallagher's, known for its old-fashioned New York atmosphere, has been in operation since 1927. Patrons are greeted by large raw-meat window displays, where they can pick their cuts of meat before being seated in wood-paneled dining rooms.

No word on whether the closure will affect the restaurant's other locations in Newark, Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
