Hotel Buzz: Andaz Shanghai Makes its Debut

Shanghai is set for its next shot of luxury. Hyatt's Andaz brand has made its first foray into Asia with the opening of the 307-room Andaz Shanghai.

We hear the hotel sits in history central in the Xintiandi neighborhood on the edge of the former French Concession (think antique walls, tiles and facades of the traditional stone-gate houses).

The hotel's rooms range from 850 to 2,000 square feet, all offering views over Xintiandi or the city. Cool touch: LED lighting on the ceiling allows guests to choose the color and mood of their room.

Restaurants and bars at the hotel highlight Shanghai's varied cuisine. The Andaz Lounge is a casual, all-day space perfect for a cocktail and a small bite. Eclair sits next to the hotel and serves up light French pastries. The hotel's main dining venue is Hai Pai, which is a four-level hub housing two restaurants, a bar and private dining rooms.

The relaxation facilities span a massive 23,000 square feet complete with indoor pool (which glows with internal LED lighting) and a 24-hour gym. Tip: We hear that Optime Spa will open at a later date and will pay homage to traditional Chinese medicine as well as modern holistic practices.
