London Hotels Court Lady Smokers with New Cigar Bars

While cigar bars and lounges have been popular in high-end hotels for decades (if not longer), they have traditionally held a decidedly masculine vibe for what has been a predominantly masculine clientele. But as tastes change, industries must change to meet a new demand, and according to The Independent, hotel cigar bars in London are now seeking lady aficionados.

The May Fair, for example, has announced plans to open a cigar room this spring that will offer a "feminine experience" complete with potted plants and a choice of martinis. The hotel joins Ten Manchester Street, a hotel in Marylebone, which recently launched a regular ladies' cigar evening, where female smokers can enjoy their stogies without feeling inhibited. The Lanesborough and The Langham also have cigar rooms or terraces to satisfy a growing demand among a new generation of smokers.

The story also notes that Cuba's most famous brand, Romeo Y Julieta, last year developed the "Julieta," a 4.75-inch cigar targeted at the lady smoker. (Note that the embargo blocking American guests from purchasing Cuban products is still in effect.)
