Now Open: Wanda Reign on the Bund, Shanghai’s “7-Star Hotel”

Diplomat Suite

Big buzz out of China. Wanda Reign on the Bund-- Shanghai’s first “seven-star hotel”-- has just opened on the city’s legendary Bund waterfront. This is the pet project of Wang Sicong, the son of Chinese real estate billionaire Wang Jianli. As reported by CNBC, he’s gained notoriety for his extravagant antics on social media. And everything about this $516 million hotel is over the top. It was designed by architect Norman Foster with breathtaking views over the Huangpu River and Pudong from the 193 guestrooms, including 14 suites that range from 45 to 288 square meters. In room amenities include wireless control dashboards, valet service boxes and the “Bed of Reign” wrapped in luxurious linens.

There are five different eateries, including French cuisine by Michelin-starred chef Marc Meneau; an enormous pillar-less Grand Ballroom; an exclusive health club; and a nightclub perched on the top floor of the hotel. The official website describes it as “the most lively party venue in Shanghai, where people go for its famous DJ, well-crafted cocktails, and celebrity-spotting.”
