Singapore’s treasured architectural gem, the Capitol Building, and its stately Victorian neighbor, Stamford House, will be unveiled in the third quarter of this year as a new ultra-luxury hotel, The Patina, Capitol Singapore. Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Richard Meier rejuvenated the two iconic buildings to function as a bridge between past and present.

Camilla Chiam, Patina Hotels & Resorts’ head of group corporate communications, who visited Luxury Travel Advisor’s offices recently, also touted the interior work by world-renowned Jaya International Design and told us that the new hotel is an integral component of Capitol Singapore, “the city’s first integrated luxury lifestyle development,” which also encompasses a premium retail mall and the newly reinvigorated Capitol Theatre. The mall, she told us, will include “international brands never seen in Singapore before,” while the 112-year-old theater maintains classic elements of its original décor with a decidedly 21st-century twist: When not hosting movies or stage productions, its 800 seats can be sunk and covered with a floor suitable for large-scale receptions and other events.

Chiam also pointed out that in addition to being within walking distance of the National Gallery and the Singapore Art Museum, The Patina has a world-class art collection of its own. Regarding the culinary arts, “The Patina will have a 250-seat Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant [Eru] and a South American chocolatier [PURE & Co.],” she said, adding that the hotel also plans to offer cooking classes. At Erubar, guests can sip the specialty Peruvian brandy, Pisco, and a range of signature cocktails, as well as sample Peruvian-style tapas, while DJs spin music into the night.

All 157 rooms and suites provide Wi-Fi, minibar refreshments (including still and sparkling water, soft drinks and juices), Aesop bath amenities, Nespresso coffee and a TWG tea collection. Guests can also enjoy the facilities of the onsite saltwater relaxation pool, spa and fitness suite.

VIP clients will especially appreciate the Patina 360° Concierge, providing bespoke one-to-one intuitive service. Employees act as ambassadors, using their knowledge of local culture and trends to assist guests with similar interests. Bonus: Guests who book a Stamford Room or any of the Stamford, Bidwell and Patina Suites are guaranteed a full 24-hour stay regardless of what time they check in.
