Spanish and Polish Cities Named European Capitals of Culture

The AP is reporting that the Spanish city of San Sebastian in the Basque region has been chosen as one of two European Culture Capitals in 2016. The other city, announced last week, is Wroclaw in southwestern Poland.

The Basque city got the nod Tuesday evening from a jury made up of European Union officials, beating out five other Spanish cities. San Sebastian is located on Spain's northern coast.

Cities designated EU culture capitals traditionally organize exhibits, concerts and artistic performances throughout the calendar year to mark the occasion.
