Tommy Hilfiger Buys the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach

The Raleigh, South Beach

The Raleigh is a legend on the South Beach scene, so news of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger’s purchase of the hotel has caused quite the Internet buzz. Page Six broke the news yesterday, as Hilfiger confided that he’d set his sights on turning the Art Deco landmark on Collins Avenue into a private club and hotel featuring a destination spa and a “whole new dining experience.”

Hilfiger told Page Six: “I have for a long time been planning to create a hospitality business, and the Raleigh offers a unique opportunity in one of the most important cities in the world.” David Edelstein and Sam Nazarian bought the property for $40 million back in 2012. Restoration plans are in the works, and sbe will continue to manage The Raleigh. Currently Michael Schwartz is the chef, and Haute Living suggests keeping him on board: "What better match, one of the country’s top American chefs known for farm-to-table cuisine with one of the quintessential American designers."
