Weddings, Barefoot Luxury Style

Nothing sets the mood for “happily ever after” like sweeping ocean views and soft sand, which is why we say that you can never go wrong booking destination weddings or honeymoons in Mexico. If your VIP clients are looking to tie the knot in classic barefoot luxury, here are four resorts that are perfect for saying, “I do.”

Rosewood Mayakoba

The Riviera Maya sits along Mexico’s Caribbean waterfront and is home to some of the most exclusive resorts in the region. Rosewood Mayakoba, just 40 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, is one of the most requested venues for exclusive wedding services. The all-suite property has individual plunge pools, personal butlers, private decks and more—all of which combine to make it a sexy option for destination weddings and honeymoons.

The property has a wide selection of venues that are available for wedding parties, rehearsal dinners, ceremonies and receptions. First and foremost, Rosewood Mayakoba uses its greatest resource—the beach—as one of its prime backdrops for weddings. Intimate ceremonies or romantic dinners for 80-100 can be accommodated on the resort’s shoreline.

The Plaza has panoramic views of the resort, lagoons and jungle. It is an outdoor venue that can host up to 60 guests for a sunset ceremony or cocktail party.

If your clients envision drinks and appetizers, or a wine and cheese tasting, as part of their wedding services, we suggest booking the Casa del Lago Bar, which can host up to 50 guests in a cocktail setup, or 40 guests for a morning-after brunch. For larger parties, we suggest booking Casa del Lago itself, which serves a fusion of European cuisines and has views of the lagoon and main pool. Parties of up to 80 will fit nicely in this venue.

For something sultry and personal, La Cava, which sits between Casa del Lago’s restaurant and bar, is an intimate wine cellar with bottles from all across the globe. This exclusive venue can accommodate celebrations for up to eight people. The resort’s Avicenia is another perfect location for private family dinners and engagements and can host up to 16 guests.

Looking for something edgy and chic? Punta Bonita, the beachfront grill, overlooks the infinity-edge pool and has floor-to-ceiling glass doors that give way to an expansive terrace. This sexy spot serves up Mexican favorites and grilled specialties and can accommodate up to 80 guests.

When booking your newlyweds-to-be, we suggest the two-bedroom Presidential Oceanfront Suite. This crescent-shaped suite has two bedrooms, each with terraces, pool and bathrooms. We love the indoor/outdoor living and dining areas, as well. Cool Touch: A private butler pantry is available should your clients prefer in-suite dining.

Zoëtry Paraiso De La Bonita
Zoëtry Paraiso De La Bonita offers every guest who books a destination wedding a complimentary Gift of Love Wedding Package.

Be sure to schedule appointments at the ultra-luxurious Sense, a Rosewood Spa, for your newlyweds or bridal parties. The 17,000-square-foot spa sits on its own private island just over the Puente del Balneario bridge. The spa has 12 lagoon-side treatment rooms and eight spa suites. Other facilities include relaxation spaces, indoor lounge, sauna, steam room and side-by-side Jacuzzi and cold plunge pool.

Nice Touch: Couples who get married at the property can experience a Rosewood honeymoon at one of 13 participating Rosewood hotels and resorts throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Mexico. Qualifying weddings earn a honeymoon getaway that includes complimentary accommodations for two nights, plus a private dinner and welcome amenity.

Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita

Among the AMResorts brands of all-inclusive resorts, our favorite is the Zoëtry collection. The flagship property, Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita, also sits in the Riviera Maya and is another must for your betrothed or recently wed clients.

The Wedding Terrace
The Wedding Terrace at Grand Solmar Land’s End has a gorgeous gazebo, which faces the ocean and the massive granite cliffs of Los Cabos.

We hear that every guest who books a destination wedding at the property is entitled to a complimentary Gift of Love Wedding Package with all the must-haves for a destination wedding. This includes the assistance of an on-site wedding coordinator, a room upgrade for the bride and groom, unpacking services, a symbolic ceremony, bouquet and boutonniere, a wedding cake and sparkling wine toast for up to 20 guests, nightly romantic turndown service and, our favorite, a free room when staying a minimum of four nights over the first anniversary.

Exclusive Touch: All guests who book destination weddings at the property are entitled to a Life Event Coordinator, whose complimentary services include planning, catering, decoration, transportation and anything else that your client may require.

Each of the oceanfront accommodations at this all-suite resort has private terraces, large flat-screen TVs in the bedroom, Wi-Fi, marble bathtub for two (did someone say romance?), fresh fruits and champagne in suite daily, and more.

For your most VIP clients, we hear the Presidential Suite takes the wedding cake. The private villa is a massive 3,000 square feet, with two master bedrooms. Each bedroom has a king-size bed, as well as personal bathrooms with marble sunken baths, glass showers and handcrafted sinks. Each bedroom also has its own large living area with TV, DVD player, daily stocked minibar and more. We love the plunge pool and private wraparound terrace, as well. Looking to have a celebratory engagement dinner? The Presidential Suite has a private dining area for up to 10 guests.

A must for your romantically inclined clients is a trip to the Thalasso Center &Spa, a 22,000-square-foot facility that has a vast menu of treatments, including Visia digital skin analysis and personalized facials, detoxifying treatments, and body wraps. There is also an outdoor therapeutic saltwater pool, in addition to specialized treatment rooms, fitness facilities, saunas and steam rooms and a special Temaxcal Mexican steam bath. Nice Touch: Couples can request massages on the pier.

Grand Solmar Land’s End

For a taste of Mexico’s rugged west coast, we recommend Grand Solmar Land’s End, the newest of the Solmar Hotels & Resorts, which debuted last May. The property sits at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula, hence its name “Land’s End.” With one of Los Cabos’ best views of the signature stone arch in the sea, this is a gorgeous backdrop for couples planning special occasions on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

The resort has a variety of special components to help customize the big day. For smaller ceremonies (think 20 to 50 of your closest friends), brides and grooms can opt for the Paradise Package, which includes a European Deluxe mani/pedi for the bride and a 55-minute Sand Falls Swedish Massage at Playa Grande’s Thalassotherapy Spa. Guests can also have live music arranged during the ceremony, as well as an hour-long photo shoot. Cool Touch: If this option appeals to your VIP clients, make sure they know about the 85-minute Pearl Treasure Facial and Body Treatment.

Ceremonies at Grand Solmar can also include a setup of white covered chairs, a white runner and tiki torches (peerless barefoot chic), and a gorgeous gazebo, which faces the ocean and the massive granite cliffs of Los Cabos. Note: All weddings take place at the gazebo, which opens up onto an outdoor space that is perfect for receptions. An on-site kitchen makes catering a breeze.

On the horizon: Grand Solmar is currently in the process of developing two new buildings of 28 units, which will include two-, three- and four-bedroom villas. The two signature four-bedroom villas will be unique and customized, but both will have a private pool and Jacuzzi, and a terrace with oceanfront views. Each villa will measure approximately 6,000 square feet and will be complete with its own special staff. The first building of units will debut in March 2012 and the second will be unveiled in May.
