Wine and Food Pairings in South Africa’s Stellenbosch Winelands

The Stellenbosch winelands in South Africa are making a name for itself, and with plenty of events in the coming months it’s time to take notice.

Visitors heading to Stellenbosch in the coming months can expect the following:

Chocolate and Wine Pairing at Lourensford: Chocolate batons are paired with four wines: a Viognier, a Merlot, SMV, and a unique honey liquor.

Sweet and Savory Pairings at JC le Roux: South Africa’s leading wine cellar, The House of J.C. Le Roux, is offering paired nougat, meringues, and marshmallows along with their signature tasting experiences. Or, if guests prefer the savory, they can opt for a variety of herb-infused olives with their sparkling wines.

Fleur du Cap Salt and Wine Pairings: Pair Fleur du Cap wines and Die Bergkelder salted treats for a unique flavor melding. Every tasting comes with a booklet to take home with recipes and pairings of Fleur du Cap wines and other artisanal salts.

Delheim Cupcake & Wine Pairing: Enjoy a Pinotage Rosé with a pomegranate cupcake; Chenin Blanc Wild Ferment with a Rooibos cupcake infused with lemon, and cream cheese and honey icing; the Delheim Pinotage paired with a pumpkin and vanilla cupcake with star anise, cinnamon, and nutmeg; and, finally, a Gewürztraminer alongside a traditional African makataan (wild melon) cupcake.

Brandy, Coffee, and Chocolate Pairing at Van Ryn’s Distillery: Tour Van Ryn’s brandy distillery, see a demonstration of how the hand-crafted barrels are made, and – of course – enjoy a tasting of three of Van Ryn’s brandies paired with Belgian chocolate and Brazilian coffee.

Avontuur Estate Wines with Nougat or Biltong: Guests can enjoy tastings of the family-owned winery’s award-winning MCC Brut, Luna de Miel Chardonnay Reserve, Minelli Pinot Noir Reserve, and Above Royalty Liqueur wine alongside plates of nougat or biltong.

Pairings at Alto Wine Estate: A choice of: three truffles paired with the rich, coffee- and almond-based Fine Old Vintage, or the Pâté & Wine Pairing, which offers guests a range of classic red wines with home-made pâtés and rye bread.
