Shangri-La Hotel, Paris Earns Palace Recognition

There's new royalty in Paris. We just heard that Shangri-La Hotel, Paris has been awarded "Palace status," just four years after its opening. Note: Palace status is designed to award official recognition to the finest five-star hotels according to French standards.

The building was built in 1896 by Prince Roland Bonaparte (so royalty was built right in). During the time the Prince lived in the palace. Having undergone refurbishment and enhancement by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts from 2006 to 2010, the Prince's residence is now listed with the French institution, "Monuments Historiques."

The hotel has 101 rooms and suites. The three restaurants include L'Abeille, the two-Michelin starred French restaurant; Shang Palace for Chinese with one Michelin star; and La Bauhinia, a fusion of French and Asian. The spa features a 52.5-foot pool and fitness facilities.
