10 Unusual Staff Positions at Virtuoso Hotels & Resorts

These are not the only unusual jobs at hotels across the globe but these are among the more uncommon titles that you'll come across.

1. Aura Architect, Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa, Nicaragua

Before arriving at the beach resort, guests are contacted by the hotel’s aura architect, who will create a room atmosphere customized for each guest. That includes personalized aromatherapy and ambient music to ensure a peaceful stay and a Zen-like vibe.

2. Astronomer, andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, Namibia

The lodge’s state-of-the-art observatory provides the ideal place to gaze in awe at the wonders of the clear desert sky, with the resident astronomer on hand to point out the brightest and most beautiful constellations.

3. Lego Butler, Ashford Castle, Ireland

Children will be delighted by the services of the Lego Butler – fully attired in white gloves and a silver tray presenting a selection of Lego sets. Order pieces from the in-room Lego Menu and the building blocks will be delivered right to the door so kids can create their own castle. Young guests can take the specially delivered Lego set home with them at the end of their stay.

4. Altitude Concierge, The St. Regis Aspen Resort, Colorado

The Altitude Concierge sets up guests with an oxygen machine, hydration and altitude-combating diet.

5. Tartan Butler, The Balmoral, A Rocco Forte Hotel, Scotland

The Tartan Butler tracks down family tartans and arranges trips to a kilt shop for fitting.

6. Swimming Instructor, Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, France

Pierre Gruneberg has been the hotel’s swimming instructor since 1950 and offers private lessons. His list of graduates is long and impressive and includes Charlie Chaplin’s children, the Kennedys, Ronald Reagan, David Niven, Aristotle Onassis, Elton John and Bono.

7. Master Sabreur, The Milestone Hotel, London, UK

The hotel’s in-house Master Sabreur is keeping an old tradition alive with a dedicated Art of Sabrage experience. He demonstrates to guests how to open a bottle of Champagne with a sabre. Guests then have the opportunity to open their own bottle, after which they receive a certificate of the event and a delicious three-course meal from the à la carte menu.

8. Curator of Curiosity, Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa, Colorado

Zebulon Miracle, the Curator of Curiosity, provides guests with access to the area’s fascinating history and geology explorations. A former museum curator, Zebulon’s mission is to enable visitors to see, hear, and experience the natural and manmade wonders of western Colorado firsthand.

9. Resort "Gurus," Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, Sri Lanka

Experience the resort and its offerings through the resort connoisseurs, also known as Gurus. The Coconut Guru, Welcome Guru, Experience Guru and Wine Gurus will provide knowledge and personalized experiences in their areas of expertise.

10. Food and Drink Sommeliers, Grand Hotel Quellenhof & Spa Suites, Switzerland

The hotel offers sommeliers for seven different foods and drinks to help guests choose among the plentiful options. Those include wine, beer, cheese, tea, coffee, the hotel’s signature healthy Cuisine Équilibrée and water.
