Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room to Close

Sad news for music lovers in New York: The Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room, an iconic venue in New York City's cabaret world, will not reopen following its current renovations, Playbill.com is reporting. 

According to the hotel's website, The Oak Room was a launching pad for Harry Connick Jr., Michael Feinstein, Andrea Marcovicci, Diana Krall, Jane Monheit, Peter Cincotti, and Jamie Cullum. 

General Manager Gary Budge told Luxury Travel Advisor that the hotel is evolving and changing, and that the team had "decided that we could better expand the space by extending Blue Bar and creating a special venue for Marriot Elite members." He added that the hotel has no immediate plans to continue as a performance space, but that the team remains open to the possibility if conditions change.
