Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel to Open in Italy

Minor Hotels continues its European expansion with the opening of Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel this spring following an extensive restoration and renovation project.

Formerly operating as NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi, the rebranded Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel will be the brand’s second property in Italy after the recent addition of Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel, and its eighth in Europe. The hotel occupies a 13th-century monastery and former Cappuccini Friars Convent, and will reveal redesigned accommodation, refreshed dining concepts and a revamped spa, all perched on a clifftop 262 feet above the sea level with views of the Mediterranean Coast.

Retaining the original materials and designs of the 800-year building, Minor Hotels says it will balance conservation, maintenance and restoration to preserve the original appearance of the façade while lending a contemporary look and feel to the interiors. During the renovation, the rooms and public spaces at Anantara’s new property in Amalfi will be updated, while the on-property late Baroque church—a popular destination for wedding ceremonies—will maintain its marble altar and Majolica floor.

The existing tiled flooring, vaulted ceilings and lime-washed walls will be preserved in the property’s 52 guestrooms and suites. Guests can expect new rich textiles, sculptural furniture, locally sourced contemporary art and the latest in high-tech comforts. The suites will retain their terraces with plunge pools, while the resort’s swimming pool area will be redesigned with custom-made furniture.

The reception-level Bar and Lounge area will be "transformed" with contemporary lighting, statement rugs made from natural fibers and low-slung furniture in cream hues. At the main restaurant, serving traditional Mediterranean flavors and wood-fired pizza, latticed metal dividers and monastic boiserie panels will be added to create a more intimate atmosphere for diners.

A revamped, travertine-clad Anantara Spa is set to reopen with a total of three treatment rooms offering healing therapies and beauty treatments. Other upgraded leisure facilities include a sea-facing spa relaxation area and a fully equipped gym with coastal views.
