Andaz Mayakoba Reopens With Focus on Nature, Wellbeing

Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya has resumed operations with an updated focus on nature, wellbeing, privacy and reconnection with family and friends. As part of Andaz Mayakoba’s new experiences, the resort has introduced expanded wellness programming, new culinary offerings, activities within nature, thorough cleanliness practices and more.

The hotel officially reopened June 15 and it is operating at 30 percent reduced capacity, as per government regulations.

So, what can guests expect? Andaz Mayakoba has rolled out a variety of wellness programming on a dedicated weekly wellness calendar, including fitness classes, meditation, spa workshops and more. Guests interested in fitness have a number of classes to choose from each day, like beach yoga and Pilates, Mayan meditation, stand-up paddle board yoga, aquatic workout classes in the pool, HIIT cardio, personal training sessions and more. These classes are held on the resort’s beach, lawn or pool area and will be limited in size. Naum Wellness & Spa has also moved its spa programming outdoors, providing guests with such new offerings as aromatherapy sessions where guests mix their own scent, spa workshops on how to make body scrubs, face masks and massage oil, as well as mini Thai, reflexology and back massages performed on the beach.

Andaz Mayakoba has also infused wellness into the cuisine with the introduction of a new Vegan Bar, offering fresh and seasonal snacks and dishes made with sustainable, locally sourced ingredients, as well as natural juices, fresh fruit waters, smoothies and healthy shots. The new, casual culinary concept has a plant-based approach with an emphasis on organic foods and vegan snacks inspired by Mexican cuisine. Apart from the Vegan Bar, there are also expanded menus at the resort’s beachside restaurants Sotavento, which serves sustainable seafood and fresh Mediterranean cuisine, and Tinta del Pulpo, which offers tacos and Mexican comfort food, along with cocktails at Olla Bar in the evenings.

Locally inspired experiences and activities include guacamole making, tequila tasting, Mexican candy sampling, a nature trail bike tour, hammock making, Tenango embroidery workshops, an eco-cruise and more. Families can take advantage of creative activities at the resort’s Kimbo Kids Club, held outside in the beach area, including Mayan drawings and bracelet making, Mayan sandcastle building, piñata making, recycled arts and crafts, painting and beach games.

Good to know: Andaz Mayakoba has updated its safety and cleanliness procedures in line with Hyatt’s Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment. As part of this commitment, the resort will have a dedicated hygiene and wellbeing leader who will be responsible for staff certifications and trainings; there will also be increased frequency of cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants, implementation of enhanced food safety measures, hand sanitizer stations placed throughout the resort, protective masks and equipment for resort staff and social distancing guidance in public areas, among other standards.

Andaz Mayakoba will be making other property-specific changes, as well, including moving check-in to the beach, implementing a bicycle rental station where bikes will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between each use, digitized restaurant menus, digital curator calendars, room service menus and more.
