Belmond has announced key leadership appointments. Iain Langridge will take on an added responsibility in his new role as vice president and divisional leader of Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific. Industry veteran Christian Boyens will join the company in the role of vice president and divisional leader of Southern Europe.
Iain Langridge joined Belmond in 2020 as divisional managing director for Asia Pacific. He has since led the company’s Asian hotels through the pandemic, developing and implementing plans of ambition that have elevated guest experience and driven property brand desirability in the region. In the past three years, Langridge has taken on additional responsibilities at a global level, playing an active role in multiple steering committees that have led to the rollout of strategic initiatives across the company.
In his new role, Langridge will be responsible for the operations and management of the newly created Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific division, which consists of an extensive breadth of properties in the regions, including: The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel, London; Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town; the Michelin-starred Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, A Belmond Hotel, Oxfordshire; three safari lodges in Botswana; and resorts such as Napasai, A Belmond Hotel, Koh Samui and Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali.
Starting January 23, Christian Boyens will oversee the operations and management of the Southern Europe division, covering Italy, Spain and Portugal. With over 25 years of experience in luxury hospitality, Boyens will bring his wealth of knowledge to further drive service excellence and brand desirability in the division, which consists of properties such as Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice; Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, Amalfi Coast; Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino; Reid’s Palace, A Belmond Hotel, Madeira; and La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca.
Prior to joining Belmond, Boyens served as head of operations, Urban Hotels at LVMH Hotel Management/Cheval Blanc. During his tenure, he led the team to a successful opening of Cheval Blanc Paris. For more than eight years, he was also the general manager of The Ritz Paris where he oversaw the closure, renovation, and repositioning of the hotel. Prior to Europe, Boyens spent 11 years in the U.S. at The Peninsula Beverly Hills and Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. He will be relocating to Milan for his new role at Belmond.
These leadership appointments follow the company’s recent restructure, which saw the creation of two new divisions—Southern Europe and Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific. Recently, Belmond announced it has made significant headway on its 10-year asset rejuvenation strategy across its portfolio and shared a renewed brand focus on experiences that will deepen guests’ connection with the destination.
