Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Completes $75 Million Renovation

(Fairmont Hotel Vancouver)

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver celebrated its 80th birthday in May by unveiling a special exhibition by portrait photographer Dennis Gocer. On display in the lobby through the end of the year, the show captures scenes reimagining the hotel’s history (the commissioned photography also features lots of diamonds by De Beers Jewelers). At the same time, the hotel rolled out an over-the-top package, priced at $80,000 CAD, providing guests the opportunity to get dolled up for a professional shoot channeling Gocer’s work, complete with hair, makeup and wardrobe styling. (Also included: Two nights in the Royal Suite and a keepsake from De Beers.)

Now, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is feting another milestone: The completion of a five-year renovation project that cost $75 million. Known as the “Castle in the City,” the chateau-style hotel is an architectural landmark in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. The project thus sought to blend new contemporary interiors with the hotel's historic heritage. There's a new lobby and restaurant, 507 new guestrooms, the “Heritage Suites” on the 14th floor and a new Fairmont Gold product (a “hotel within a hotel” experience, with 42 renovated guest rooms located on the ninth and fourteenth floors of the building).

Fairmont Gold offers a private lounge and dedicated concierge team who can secure restaurant reservations, devise a personalized Vancouver itinerary, and deliver coffee with a morning wake-up call. Booking tip: The hotel has launched the “What’s Gold is New Again” package with 20 percent savings in Fairmont Gold when booking before December 31, 2019, for stays until April 30, 2020.
