Four Seasons Punta Mita Opens New Restaurant

(NA)

The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita has opened a new dining destination: Dos Catrinas, a two-story restaurant with ocean views and two lively bars. The space aims to capture a fusion of Mexico’s traditional culture and history and will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The two-level restaurant has a main dining area and bar on the ground floor, with a second bar and lounge on the second floor. The design by Colombian architect Saul Sasson aims to combine classic Mexican style with more urban touches, incorporating lively pops of color, greenery and an eclectic sense of décor that runs the gamut from neon lights to life-sized “Catrinas,” which symbolize new beginnings in Mexican culture. All of the furniture pieces, design accessories and construction materials are locally sourced.

Chefs Jorge González and Richard Sandoval crafted the menu as a “modern and inventive twist” on Mexican fare and street food – think beef tongue tacos, lobster enfrijolada and, for dessert, tabasco chocolate lollipops. There’s also a large wine list and selection of cocktails, plus a house mezcal, called “Los Mitos.” Each bottle of the mezcal will highlight a different tale from Mexican folklore; the first, named “Chaneques,” honors mythological beings said to be guardians of nature.

The wine list also pays tribute to Mexican craftsmanship, as well as the country’s terroir, offering a wide variety of vintages from Mexican winemakers around the world. For the cocktail menu, the restaurant’s mixologists use natural and local products, including the restaurant’s own “Los Mitos.” There is also a jice bar in the restaurant for guests to create their own personzlied fresh-pressed juices.
