GHM to Launch The Chedi Kudavillingili in the Maldives

(The Chedi Kudavillingili)

In a destination of superlatives—underwater suites and restaurants! astronomical observatories!—the Maldives keeps upping the ante. Composed of more than 1,000 islands in 26 atolls in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives has the silky sand beaches and crystal-clear water to lure the world’s jetsetters and honeymooners. Even with this postcard-perfect setting, the resorts keep taking it up a notch with their over-the-top amenities. Case in the point: The latest resort to arrive on the scene, The Chedi Kudavillingili, will boast the longest pool in the country.

Slated to open later this year, The Chedi Kudavillingili will be the first property in the Maldives for GHM (General Hotel Management Ltd.), originally launched in 1992 by hoteliers Adrian Zecha and Hans Jenni. The hospitality company rose to fame for the likes of The Nam Hai in Vietnam, The Chedi Muscat in Oman and The Chedi Andermatt in Switzerland. Today, the Chedi brand can also be found in Montenegro, and properties are in the pipeline in Mumbai, Taiwan and Sharjah (UAE).

Accessed via 25-minute speedboat ride from the Malé International Airport, The Chedi Kudavillingili will be named for the coral island where it’s situated (Kudavillingili island measures just one kilometer). The resort will have 99 villas, including 36 overwater bungalows, and a highlight will be the aforementioned central pool, measuring 150 meters in length. Facilities will include a spa with eight overwater treatment rooms, a beach club, restaurants and a variety of water sports including surfing and fishing.
