Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barth Appoints New General Manager

Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barth has appointed Andrei Mocanu as the new general manager of the boutique hotel. In this new role, Mocanu will oversee every aspect of the luxurious property and its day-to-day operations, including the 21 suites and bungalows, the popular Fouquet’s restaurant and Spa Diane Barrière. Mucano will work closely with the hotel’s food and beverage, sales, and operations teams with an aim to ensure the property has an even more triumphant second year.

“We are delighted to welcome Andrei Mocanu to Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf team as the new general manager,” said Charles Richez, area director at Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf, in a press note. “His reputation in the luxury hotel industry is exemplary, and he has continuously demonstrated an innovative and strategic approach in all of his previous roles. We look forward to the continued success of the new Le Carl Gustaf under the direction of Mocanu.”

Mocanu brings more than 12 years of managerial experience in the luxury hospitality industry to his new role. Prior to joining the Barrière property, he served as the general manager of the Golden Nevis Inn, the 40-acre St. Kitts and Nevis hotel, which is owned by artists Helen and Brice Marden, for four years. There, he had the opportunity to co-manage alongside his wife Antonia Hornung. Mocanu also spent three years as the general manager of Guana Island, a private island resort in the British Virgin Islands. Additionally, he served as vice chairman of the board of directors at the Nevis Tourism Authority, director of front office at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Canada, front office and reservations manager at Canouan Estate Villas & Residences, rooms division manager at Cotton House Mustique Island, and guest services manager and night manager at Hotel Le St-James.

Opened in October 2020, the five-star hotel features 21 rooms and is the only property that offers panoramic views of Gustavia, the island’s capital. The hotel is home to the renowned Fouquet’s restaurant, which has made the journey from Paris to offer guests a dynamic menu of French-Caribbean cuisine created by Pierre Gagnaire, a three-star Michelin chef. Le Carl Gustaf also offers access to Shellona Restaurant located on Shell Beach.
