Indonesia’s Bawah Reserve to Reopen This Summer

The eco-resort Bawah Reserve will reopen on September 1, 2022, welcoming guests to the Anambas Islands, Indonesia for the first time in over two years. Accessible via private seaplane, Bawah Reserve is a remote group of six tropical islands in the Riau Archipelago, Indonesia, located 160 nautical miles from Singapore. It is set across 13 beaches and three lagoons with 100 hectares of forest.

Set on a previously untouched island named Elang, Bawah Reserve will launch a collection of six adults-only cliffside lodges on November 1. Elang Private Residence has been created by Singaporean designer Sim Boon Yang. Each residence is ideal for groups of up to 20 people; guests will have exclusive access to a private beach, an open-air, two-story Club House restaurant and bar, a Beach House, Kayu Spa and a saltwater infinity pool. Additional amenities include private butler service and daily spa treatments.

On the main island, Bawah Reserve will unveil two new accommodation categories, inspired by the increased demand for group, multigenerational and family travel. The two-bedroom Infinity Pool Villa comprises two stand-alone beach suites connected with an alfresco lounge and dining area. A private infinity pool offers direct access to the lagoon. The two-bedroom Garden Pool Villa consists of two garden suites with shared lounge and dining area, nestled in the forest. The resort has refurbished 11 of its overwater lodges, which sport new furnishings and layouts.

Upon reopening, Bawah Reserve will offer guests a tour of the newly installed floating solar farm that now powers the property. The football pitch-sized solar energy farm provides the majority of the island’s electricity, thereby reducing carbon emissions. Bawah is the first island in Indonesia to be powered by a renewable microgrid and is certified as a five-star resort under the Signing Blue WWF program.
