Renowned interiors, design and architecture studio, Liaigre, has officially unveiled its redesign of the spa complex at Hôtel Costes in Paris, continuing its long-standing dialogue between Studio Liaigre and Jean-Louis Costes.
Conceived in partnership with Augustinus Bader skincare, as a sanctuary of calm in a private lower-level space beneath the hotel, the 10,764-square-foot spa features a 20-meter (65-foot) swimming pool, eight treatment rooms and a fitness area. Here, architecture, light, and touch converge to elevate well-being into an art form.
Located in Paris’ 1st arrondissement, just steps from Rue Saint-Honoré, the hotel has stood as a cultural and social landmark of the city. Reserved for hotel guests and discerning clients, its spa now unfolds as a series of meticulously designed spaces with interiors shaped by softened geometries, noble materials, and a palette of travertine, smoked oak, lacquer, and liquid amber. The choice for these materials echo those used throughout other spaces in the hotel designed by Liaigre — as do the furnishings and lighting fixtures.
At the base of a bifurcated staircase, through a heavy-set molded gate, guests are welcomed at a sculpted white marble reception desk, sitting across a luminous hand-painted golden oriental artwork.
A Dolby Atmos sound system envelops the space in immersive audio, while the air is enriched with the spa’s signature fragrance. Developed in collaboration with lighting designer Arnold Chan, Founder of Isometrix, soft lighting rises subtly from the floor. This sculptural approach to lighting alters perception and disengages guests from the outside world. Within this cocoon-like environment, sharp angles have been consciously eliminated.
At the heart of the spa lies the heated swimming pool, conceived for lap swimming with oxygen-enriched waters. The lagoon-toned mosaic basin, geometric coffered ceiling, and double treatment cabins open directly onto the pool through large lacquered doors. Lagune lanterns and Emae wall sconces punctuate the space between each cabin. Eggshell-toned privacy curtains envelop the relaxation areas, while wood daybeds in complementary shades introduce warmth and softness.
The eight treatment rooms, designed to complement therapies by Augustinus Bader’s expert therapists, are accessed via quiet corridors. Each room features a double-entry layout: a private antechamber separated from the corridor by darkened glass leads to the treatment space itself, ensuring an experience that is both intimate and tranquil.
The opening of the Hôtel Costes Spa follows the launch of the Costes x Liaigre capsule collection in 2024, bringing together emblematic furniture pieces originally conceived for the hotel and translating them into collectible design objects.
“This spa is the latest chapter in our partnership with Hôtel Costes, continuing the dialogue between two French houses’ committed to lasting design,” said Christophe, Creative Director of Liaigre. “We approached the redesign of the spa with the same discipline that defines Liaigre—careful attention to proportion, light, and material—ensuring the space feels calm, coherent, and true to our enduring design language.”
The Hôtel Costes Spa is the latest installment of a decade-long vision initiated in 2015, when Jean-Louis Costes commissioned Christian Liaigre to redesign Hôtel Lotti and unify it with Hôtel Costes—originally designed by Jacques Garcia in 1995—and a third adjoining property under the name Le Costes. Drawing on inspirations of a Parisian private mansion and loft-like openness, Liaigre created bespoke interiors across the complex; inaugurated in the early 2020s, Le Costes stands as his final major project; redefining Parisian luxury hospitality with a contemporary, cosmopolitan spirit.
