The Luxury Collection has announced the signing of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos, marking the hospitality brand’s first property in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Located on the pristine beaches of South Caicos Island, the new property is slated to open its doors to travelers in early 2025.
Inspired by South Caicos’ natural salt flats, Salterra's design—led by Edge of Architecture and 2020 Gold Key Awards Designer of the Year, Malcolm Berg—brings the outdoors inside. The property will have 100 guest accommodations, ranging from oceanfront king and queen guestrooms to one- and two-bedroom suites and three-bedroom Governor’s Penthouse suites.
The Spa at Salterra will have eight treatment rooms, including two couples' treatment rooms. It will also offer an outdoor lounge and an aquathermal experience, complete with a sauna, steam room, invigorating showers and a rejuvenating hammam. Guests can additionally make use of a hot tub and social pool.
Spread across more than a mile of natural beach adjoining a national park, Salterra will offer six food and beverage concepts. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in craft cocktails with unique twists at Sisal, the property’s lobby bar or, for a more relaxed beachfront experience, they can head to the Latin-inspired Cobo Bar & Grill, serving casual bites and tropical drinks. Signature fine dining will be on display at Brine, offering a chef’s tasting menu and expansive wine list. Regatta, with a second story outdoor terrace, will be serving a fusion of international and local cuisine for breakfast and dinner, while the lively Flamingo Café will offer grab-and-go items such as homemade gelato or an espresso. The culinary journey will continue with creative offerings at the resort’s food truck, Jack & Jenny’s. Dishes will be inspired by the history of South Caicos.
Salterra will offer an abundance of family-friendly and adventurous offerings, including watersports (scuba diving, snorkeling, guided bonefishing, kayaking and seasonal whale watching). Guests can paddle through mangrove forests, snorkel with eagle rays or spend a day exploring uninhabited cays. From on-land activities like the South Caicos salt experience to serene beachside experiences such as paddleboard yoga, the resort has ample options for experiential learning, exercise and adventure.
Good to know: Salterra is committed to safeguarding its island home through various partnerships that prioritize regenerative travel. As part of the effort to protect the island's coral reefs, the Salterra ownership group has launched the South Caicos Coral Reef Consortium, involving the establishment of an in-water coral nursery and a land-based coral nursery at the nearby School for Field Studies Center for Marine Resource Studies. More than half of the resort’s energy will be derived from solar power and all guestrooms will have filtered water dispensers as part of an effort to eliminate the use of single use plastic bottles.
The resort also will provide a unique opportunity for guests to actively participate in coral reef restoration. Through educational activities, guests can contribute to the growth of endangered corals, directly aiding in the revitalization of South Caicos reefs.
