Luxury Collection Hotels and Resorts will debut the brand’s first-ever hotel on the Australian territory of Tasmania in late 2018, following a full-scale renovation. The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart will reside in repurposed heritage buildings in Parliament Square, a new design-led urban development.
Upon opening, The Tasman will have 128 guestrooms and suites with original windows, floorboards and fireplaces. The hotel's dining options (all reflecting the surrounding area) include an upscale restaurant, lobby lounge and a whiskey bar. Exclusive pieces from local artists will be showcased in the hotel’s corridors, as well.
The Sydney-based hospitality interior design firm JPDC will conduct the restoration process, maintaining the Georgian and Art Deco architectural style throughout the building. The Tasman’s relaxed, harbor-side location will also be highlighted throughout. Good to know: Natural materials, such as recycled timber from the original buildings, will be reincorporated into the building.
The hotel will take residency in an assortment of heritage buildings, including the Georgian-style St. Mary’s Hospital that was originally constructed in 1847. The Tasman will be located right behind Hobart’s historic Parliament House, near notable places such as the Salamanca Market and the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). Upon its completion in 2018, Parliament Square will include an integration of outdoor space, distinct heritage buildings and contemporary architecture, providing government office, retail and food and beverage space.
The Tasman joins the Luxury Collection's portfolio of over 100 hotels and resorts in 30 countries and territories.
