Minor Hotel Group Announces First Property in Cambodia

Minor Hotel Group (MHG) has announced the addition of its first property in Cambodia after the group acquired majority ownership of the Sothea Boutique Resort in Siem Reap. The property will be rebranded to Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa later this year.

This latest addition to MHG’s portfolio takes the total number of properties in operation to 95 and adds a new country, taking the total to 14.

Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa will be a 39-suite boutique resort in Siem Reap, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat temples. The resort is just 10 minutes from Siem Reap International Airport and is close to Angkor Wat and Siem Reap’s central district. The resort is housed within an estate that exudes the elegance of a grand Khmer villa, with Cambodian heritage fusing with the resort’s contemporary amenities.

The resort’s main restaurant offers a modern interpretation of native Khmer recipes, with alternative dining available on the alfresco terrace and in the frangipani tree lined courtyard. The spa, with its five spa and massage suites, offers a selection of organic treatments and daily yoga. The gold-flecked, terrazzo-tiled pool has built in seats on all sides, complete with Jacuzzi jets. Each guest room houses artwork designed by local artists and custom-made furniture can be found throughout the resort, along with elements of Angkor Wat-inspired design.

The new addition to Anantara’s portfolio will bring the brand to the Cambodian market for the first time and will become the seventh country for the fast expanding brand.

MHG is a hotel owner, operator and investor, currently with a portfolio of 95 hotels and suites in operation under the Anantara, AVANI, Per AQUUM, Oaks, Elewana, Marriott, Four Seasons, St. Regis and Minor International brands in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Cambodia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, the UAE, Australia and New Zealand. AVANI was created to complement MHG’s five star Anantara brand which currently offers destination experiences in 23 locations, with a target of 50 properties in operation and under development by 2015.
