Newport Harbor Island Resort Reopens After $50 Million Facelift

Owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and operated by Davidson Resorts, Newport Harbor Island Resort on Goat Island, RI, has reopened following a property-wide transformation. The project encompassed the property’s guestrooms and suites, spa, culinary experiences, meeting spaces and 22-slip marina.

Newport Harbor Island Resort partnered with Dawson Design Associates to renovate the property, which sits on the site of a former torpedo factory. The all-day dining at Torpedo Bar & Lounge offers local favorites, while the new café The Bakery offers grab-and-go options and beverages.

Opening Memorial Day Weekend in time for the summer season, the resort’s full-service restaurant, 1639, will serve dinner menu items showcasing fresh seafood and New England favorites, along with extended service to the Marina Deck and dockside. The Pineapple Club, also opening Memorial Day Weekend, will debut a new menu of lobster rolls, fresh seafood, salads, flatbreads and grilled items. It will also offer expanded cabana seating with a new adults-only section, and special pop-up programming, from local sketch artists to seasonal culinary installations.

As part of the reopening, Newport Harbor Island Resort now offers a range of activities both on- and off-site under the direction of new Recreation Manager Rebecca Violette. Activities include group clambakes, fireside s’mores, wellness classes, movie nights and a Kids’ Club, as well as a new, larger-occupancy seasonal water taxi directly from the resort marina to downtown Newport kicking off Memorial Day Weekend.

The resort also offers nearly 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space designed for both large- and small-scale weddings, meetings, conferences and more.
