Risonare Nasu, Hoshino Resort’s First “Agrotourismo” Resort, Is Open

Risonare Nasu, located in the Nasu highlands in the Tochigi prefecture in Japan, marks the fourth opening of the Risonare brand. Risonare Nasu offers “agriturismo” experiences—a term that is believed to have originated in Italy and references the coming together of agriculture and tourism.

With the “agriturismo” concept, the resort aims to introduce travelers to nature’s wonders while immersing them in local culture and customs. The Nasu area is home to highland vegetables, herbs and rice and offers agriculturally themed activities tied to the changing seasons throughout the year.

The resort has 43 guestrooms split between a main building and the annex, all surrounded by a forested area, as well as an Agri-Garden, where various plants and crops are grown. The property has two dining options, including an Italian-themed restaurant (Otto Sette Nasu) serving dishes made with vegetables and herbs gathered on-site, Shaki Shaki, a buffet restaurant, and Books&Café, a casual café and library equipped with a stone oven where guests can custom-create pizzas with their own freshly picked vegetables. There are also family-themed facilities such as Poko Poko, which offers nature-related activities for children and adults alike, and Net Zone, a 21-foot long net stretched from wall to wall, where guests can bounce around.

Good to know: Risonare Nasu is home to a spa offering a variety of treatments. (Guests can also receive treatments in their room, should they want.) There’s also an outdoor hot spring at the base of Mt. Chausuyama.
