The newest Ritz-Carlton property is now open for business. The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi is an oceanfront resort on an island in Malaysia. Located in a private bay, the resort is surrounded by an ancient jungle and is designed to incorporates influences from local culture and immerse travelers in the island’s natural ecosystem.
The resort houses 70 guest rooms, 15 suites and 29 villas, and was designed with references to Malay architecture like large windows and gabled roofs. Rooms have been integrated into the surrounding jungle while the overwater villas offer panoramic views of the sea. The resort’s Villa Mutiara offers deluxe accommodations for up to eight and has two pools and access to a private beach.
Guests experience island culture from the moment they arrive at the resort with the Walkway of Wishes entrance. The entrance features a water fountain inspired by the island’s mystical granter of wishes, Tasik Dayang Bunting. Guest can write their wishes on a flat stone, which is then placed into the water in hopes that it will come true.
During the "golden hours" of sunrise and sunset, guests can watch a modern performance of an ancient tarian payang on the beach, a traditional gesture of thanks and respect for a rich bounty. There are also guided jungle walks when guests can learn about the myths and creatures of the surrounding rainforest. Travelers can also explore Langkawi’s local night markets, where traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian delicacies and crafts can be encountered.
There are four dining venues on the resort, each overlooking the Andaman Sea. Restaurants range from a blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine in Langkawi Kitchen to Western classics at the Beach Grill.
The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Langkawi offers rituals inspired by the indigenous healing and beauty ceremonies practiced by local shamans on the Island for thousands of years. The spa is home to five cocoon-shaped pavilions which float above the sea and have been designed to resemble Malay Bubus or the woven fish traps that have used by local fishermen for centuries
Also on the property is a tennis court, fully-equipped gym, and an infinity pool. Indoor and outdoor yoga classes take place with 180-degree views of the rainforest. There are also locally-inspired activities for children and families as part of its Ritz Kids program.
