Rosewood to Open Hotels in Mexico City, Hangzhou in 2024, 2026

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is expanding its footprint in both Mexico and China with properties in Mexico City and Hangzhou, slated to open in 2024 and 2026, respectively.

Located in the flourishing Polanco district in the heart of the capital, Rosewood Mexico City is within walking distance of luxury shopping district Avenida Presidente Masaryk, as well as cultural institutions like the Museo Soumaya and Museo Jumex.

Designed by Mexico City-based architecture firm Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, Rosewood Mexico City will occupy the grand tower of Antara’s new-build expansion. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Antara is a mixed-use development, which also comprises offices, luxury retail outlets, restaurants and entertainment venues. The enclave will encompass 133 accommodations, 35 of which will be suites, and four food and beverage outlets, including an all-day bistro, a poolside bar and grill, a “living room” and a specialty dining venue. Intended for hotel guests and the local community alike, the hotel will also be home to Asaya, Rosewood’s wellness concept, which will comprise two swimming pools, a fitness and wellbeing center, eight treatment rooms and changing rooms and hydrotherapy areas. Dedicated meeting and event spaces totaling 13,670 square feet will cater to groups.

Upon opening, Rosewood Mexico City will add to the group’s collection of hotels and resorts in Mexico, including Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort in Los Cabos, Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende and Rosewood Mandarina, opening in 2023. The highly anticipated opening will mark Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ 20th property in the Americas and joins the brand’s largest growth pipeline to date with 24 projects across the globe.

Hangzhou, China

Elsewhere, Rosewood continues its growth in China with the announcement of Rosewood Hangzhou, opening in 2026. Located in Wangjiang New City, an “emerging hub of innovation, technology and financial services” in the heart of Hangzhou, the new-build luxury hotel will be part of another mixed-use development project.

The Wangjiang New City development will include a K11 Art Mall, office buildings and workspaces, luxury residences and cultural attractions, in addition to Rosewood Hangzhou. The hotel itself will sit in a standalone 16-story building. Beyond the many establishments and institutions within the development, visitors will enjoy access to many of the city’s key landmarks and lifestyle destinations, including West Lake and the central business district, Qianjiang New City. The area will also be connected to two subway lines, allowing for easy travel to other parts of the city.

The architecture of the project will be led by Büro Ole Scheeren, with interiors by Shanghai-based Neri&Hu. In line with Rosewood’s commitment to environmental preservation and protection, sustainability will be a key component of the project, from its design to operations. Rosewood Hangzhou, according to the group, is being designed for both LEED and WELL certification, with maximum sustainability features and benefits, while also incorporating architectural and operational elements that aim to advance human health and wellness.

Upon opening, Rosewood Hangzhou will offer 140 accommodations, including 17 suites. Suite guests will enjoy access to Rosewood’s signature Manor Club, an executive lounge offering food and beverage experiences, butler service and separate spaces for gathering and entertaining. There will be four dining outlets, including an all-day bistro, a Chinese restaurant and a specialty bar. An all-new culinary and retail hybrid concept that combines the offerings of a flower shop, living room lounge and patisserie will also be available. Additional amenities will include a fitness center, indoor pool and hydrotherapy areas. Meeting and event spaces and facilities will span 11,840 square feet.

Rosewood Hangzhou adds to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ Asian footprint as the eighth property in development in the region, with a pipeline that includes projects in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hoi An. The hotel joins nine existing properties in Asia, including Rosewood Beijing, Rosewood Guangzhou and Rosewood Hong Kong.
