Salishan Resort Announces New Wellness Retreat

Salishan Resort in Oregon has announced its inaugural Mindfulness & Mediation for Peace, Vitality, and Inspiration Retreat, running September 21-23. The retreat has been developed in conjunction with Sarah McLean, a best-selling author on meditation and the founder of the McLean Meditation Institute in Sedona, Arizona.

McLean is a global teacher for contemporary meditation and mindfulness practices. Her experience with meditation began in 1990 while working with Deepak Chopra at a Transcendental Meditation center in Massachusetts. There, she was immersed in ancient mind/body healing modalities and advanced meditation techniques. She later served as the program director for the Chopra Center in California and facilitated retreats and gatherings around the country.

Since then, she has lived in a traditional ashram in India, was a two-year resident at a remote Zen Buddhist Monastery, and served as the director of Byron Katie’s School for the Work. McLean is a best-selling Hay House author and is the director of the international Meditation Teacher Academy in Sedona.

During the mindfulness and meditation weekend retreat, McLean lets people in on the best ways to incorporate mindful living as well as how to establish and enjoy their daily meditation practice. She will guide guests through reflective exercises to explore what inspires them and what is important to them.

The weekend begins with a hosted evening welcome reception on Friday, September 21, during which attendees will have an opportunity to connect with McLean and each other. Then, on Saturday, September 22, guests start their day with a sunrise meditative Yin Yoga session followed by an introduction to mindfulness and meditation. The afternoon provides attendees with free time to relax at the spa, go hiking or take a tour on the water via stand-up paddle boards or kayak with Salishan Oregon Coast Outfitters.

McLean’s late afternoon session challenges guests to become more self-aware, explore their thinking patterns, and create a shift in perspective. Later, guests gather for a healthy dinner. They will have the opportunity to explore mindful eating practices and share their insights.

The last day of the retreat is a day of self-discovery and begins with a sunrise meditation. After breakfast, guests will be guided on a walk into the woods surrounding Salishan for a Forest Bathing experience. The Forest Bathing tour will lead guests through one of the resort’s nature trails and utilize touching, smelling and listening to the elements to connect with nature and themselves. Guests will then be guided into meditative journaling and a guided meditation. After closing words from McLean, the program concludes around noon to allow guests ample time to continue enjoying the resort or travel home.

Salishan’s Mindfulness & Meditation Retreat includes two nights' lodging, all sessions with McLean, daily yoga and meditation, the welcome reception, a boxed lunch and a celebration dinner. Breakfasts, spa treatments and additional resort activities are not included.

On top the wellness retreat, the resort plans to offer several retreats throughout the year, according to general manager Ryan McCarthy.
