Small Luxury Hotels Adds Five More Properties

D-Resort Šibenik: Croatia

Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) has announced that it will be adding five new independent-minded hotels located in Iceland, Greece, Croatia, Estonia, and Taiwan. These hotels offer everything from a UNESCO World Heritage Site, modern luxury by the marina, pet-friendly services and a new ski destination. 

SLH is a collection of small, independent hotels around the world. There are currently more than 500 hotels in 80 countries. The newest additions are:

D-Resort Šibenik: Šibenik, Croatia

This luxury resort has brought modern edge to one of Croatia’s oldest port towns. All of the 72 rooms and suites at D-Resort Šibenik offer views of the Adriatic Sea while the Yacht Club restaurant looks over the marina. Or for a traditional Croatian meal, guests can head to Art Restaurant.

For kids, there’s a dedicated Kids Club and pool while parents relax with a couples massage or hammam. The resort’s location near the Marina allows guests to easily board a yacht to explore the Kornati Islands or take the shuttle boat to Šibenik old town.

The 62 rooms at Grand Forest Metsovo have floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies allowing guests ample opportunity to soak in the views of the Pindos peaks in this mountaintop retreat. There’s plenty do year-round with foot and horseback trails to explore in the summer and skiing in the winter. The new family-friendly ski resort Anilio is located nearby and even has baby lifts and rental outlets. 

Sandhotel: Reykjavik, Iceland

Sandhotel is actually a collection of townhouses, many of which are historical locations. Nobel Prize-winning author Halldor Laxness once lived in one of the buildings, while another was a former gentlemen’s store that first opened in 1918. There are even some accommodations above Sandholt, a popular local bakery known for their cinnamon buns. 

The hotel opened just this summer and rooms have been redecorated with in an art deco style and also feature work from Icelandic artists and fabrics from local tailors.

Hotel St. Petersbourg: Tallinn, Estonia

Hotel St Petersbourg is the country’s oldest hotel but it won’t feel old. It’s been given a contemporary makeover, designed by award-winning British designers Andrew Martin and inspired by imperial Russia. The hotel is located in Tallinn’s old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Northern Europe. 

Guests can enjoy high-end Russian cuisine and cocktails at The Hermitage or spend time at the spa for the private sauna and beauty treatments.

Union House Lukang: Lukang, Taiwan

While the hotel is in Lukang Old Town, Union House Lukang is designed for the modern traveler. While breakfast offers international cuisine, its local home-baked bread is a highlight. Located on the first floor is a zen-like garden of pebbles, running water, and delicate plants. And don’t worry about bringing kids or pets: the hotel has children’s games available as well as a pet-sitting service.
