Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) is introducing four new properties this summer, including the brands first-ever hotels in Azerbaijan and Málaga, as well as two boutique hotels in Thailand and Switzerland. Here’s a look at the latest additions:

Dinamo Hotel Baku, Baku, Azerbaijan

Conceived as the home of the Dinamo Sport Society, the elegant city building was built in the 1930s. Nearly a century later, the Dinamo Hotel Baku completed its transformation in May 2018. Friezes and statues punctuate the décor of the spa and restaurant, while upstairs, pops of color adorn the bedrooms. Aiming to emphasize the qualities of the city and local culture, the hotel utilizes such elements as traditional rug patterns on stone mosaic floors. For dinner, the Olympia restaurant offers a fine dining option. The spa, equipped with a fitness center and swimming pool, also offers a selection of signature treatments and several beauty services, including a Nail Bar. Outside of the Dinamo doors, guests can experience the European, Asian and Middle Eastern influences of Baku while visiting city landmarks, such as Baku’s "Old City" and the Heydar Aliyev art complex. Additionally, children staying on the property can enjoy welcome gifts, in-room game consoles and special treats at evening turn-down.

Palacio Solecio, Malaga, Spain

Set in Málaga’s Old Town, Palacio Solecio, a former 18th-century palace, has been restored by Antonio Obrador’s Architecture Studio. Classic in architectural style, guests are greeted by glimpses of the hotel’s past: Original stone staircase leads guests up to the first floor, where the décor of the rooms, suites and function spaces blend historical character with contemporary comfort. Outside, guests can roam underneath ornate cloisters while sipping cocktails around the hotel’s fountain. In the restaurant, Michelin-star chef Jose Carlos Garcia offers a twist on traditional dishes from the South of Spain. Additionally, around the hotel guests will find a celebration of Málaga’s past and present, from the Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga to traditional Arabic baths and Flamenco restaurants. The historical Alcazaba Fortress is also a short walk from the hotel, where guests can wander the gardens and courtyards before climbing the slope for a view of the city. The Palacio Solecio is set to open its doors in December 2019.

The 820-foot beachfront is shaded by Casuarina trees and leads up to a 200-year-old tropical forest. Combining modern luxury with eco-credentials, the hotel launches this month with a “no single-use plastic” policy, replacing plastic items with bamboo, ceramic and recycled paper, instead. Serving traditional Asian cuisine, guests can dine at the hotel’s Shimmer Beachfront Restaurant and enjoy the restaurant’s specialty menu during Saturday brunch. Additionally, the hotel’s beach shuttle can take guests to the hotel’s sister resort, Twinpalms Phuket near Surin Beach, as well as Palm Seaside, Catch Beach Club and Catch Junior on Bang Tao Beach or HQ Beach Lounge on Kamala Beach.

Alex Lake Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland

Opening this July on the Western Shore of Lake Zürich, between Zürich and Zug, is Alex Lake Zürich. Set across five floors of stone and glass, the hotel has 44 rooms and suites, all with lake views, terraces and kitchens. The Boathouse, an all-day dining restaurant and bar, will serve guests Swiss-sourced produce and regional wines. A wellness area is also available exclusively for guests and has a sauna, steam room, relaxation area, fitness room, plunge pool, spa treatment room and direct access to the lake for swimming. Guests will also have access to several activities and services, including the hotel yacht, water sports on the lake, bicycles for exploring the local area and rowing from the local club adjacent to the hotel. Additionally, guests can enjoy a boat trip to Rapperswil, home to the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland.
