New Royal Tea at London's Hotel Café Royal

Headed to London this September? Hotel Café Royal is launching a new "London Royal Tea" service in the property's Belle-Epoque Café Royal Grill Room, now re-named the Oscar Wilde Bar -- the very same room where the likes of Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Rudyard Kipling, Winston Churchill and the Duke of Windsor once dined.

The afternoon tea experience begins with Hotel Café Royal's designated toastmaster ringing a bell from the historic entrance on Regent Street, to signal the beginning and end of afternoon tea service, a move meant to evoke the spirit of the "muffin men" of early 19th century London. Upon arrival in the Oscar Wilde Bar, guests are given a brief history of the traditions surrounding afternoon tea in Britain and a piece of news from Café Royal's past.

For the new London Royal Tea, the chefs at Hotel Café Royal have crafted their own culinary interpretations of the traditional afternoon tea menu of sandwiches, scones, delicacies, cakes and savories.

A choice of custom-blended teas from the Canton Tea company will be on offer.

The London Royal Tea is priced at £42 (approx. US$65) per person; the Champagne London Royal Tea is priced at £55 (approx. US$85) per person. Both are available daily from noon to 5 pm.
