New "SuperPier" to Open on New York City's West Side in 2015

Visitors to New York will have a new exclusive getaway in about 18 months, when Pier 57 finally reopens as "SuperPier." (For the record, Popular Mechanics Magazine originally bestowed the name upon the space when it was originally constructed back in February 1952.)

According to city website Gothamist, Youngwoo & Associates (the firm developing the pier) have announced that when it opens in spring 2015, the 12-acre venue will have a Riverfront Spa and Beach Club from Andre Balazs, who is already represented in the area with the perpetually buzz-generating Standard Hotel. Other attractions will include Brooklyn Boulders (a harness-less rock-climbing space)  and Opening Ceremony, a multi-level retail store in repurposed shipping containers.

SuperPier will be located at West 15th Street in Hudson River Park, and will have restaurants, films, art, and more. The venue extends on-over-& under the Hudson River adjacent to The Meatpacking District, West Chelsea, The High Line, the Whitney, Chelsea Market, and includes 270,000 square feet of total leasable space for food markets and restaurants; culture and recreation; creative retailers; and an "Incubox" marketplace.
