New York's First Permanent Cat Cafe to Open Next Month

Cat lovers in New York can rejoice: City website Gothamist is reporting that the city's first official cat cafe will debut next month on the Lower East Side.

Meow Parlour will open at 46 Hester Street on December 15, giving feline aficionados half hour slots to scratch, pet, and play with kitties (who, it just so happens, are available for adoption). Visitors can secure their spots ahead of time online in half-hour increments for up to five hours, starting at $4. Guests will also be able to post selfies with their rented cats through the cafe's Wi-Fi and grab a bite to eat at the patisserie. (As the website notes, proprietors Christina Ha and Emilie Legrand run Macaron Parlour, so the food should be special.) Also good to know: Guests can bring their snacks into the cat area.

We hear the cafe's cats are on loan from KittyKind, a nonprofit rescue group. Even better? The city may soon get a second cat cafe in the spring.
