One might say that it is easier now more than ever to keep up to date on education. With so many avenues to pursue, I, for one, think that it can be quite overwhelming. I have two different e-mail accounts with various newsletters I hold subscriptions to. My personal e-mail is where I receive my marketing updates, my work e-mail is where I receive general news and travel-specific information—not to mention the websites I visit to manage my day-to-day tasks. The amount of information coming in and going out is voluminous. There is no denying how invaluable education is, and finding the right formula to help you increase your knowledge is important.
I set educational goals for myself each year just like the goals you may set for your business. Year to year they change. One year, I wanted to fine-tune my writing skills, and I sought out options to help me reach that goal. Luckily, here in New York City, we have many continuing educational opportunities; I enrolled in a business writing class at one of the universities. Each week we learned effective ways to communicate using the written word and in the end, I had different techniques to implement in my overall practice.
Setting Goals
It is important to find what works for you. Conferences, seminars and trade shows are a great resource for education. A great goal is to increase your knowledge by attending a conference like Luxury Travel Expo or our Young Leaders Conference. Both have educational programming created for the segment they serve—luxury travel advisors and young travel professionals, respectively.
What goals do you set for yourself? How does education play into your day-to-day role and in your overall career? I would love to hear your ideas about how we can help you meet your educational goals.
