Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo Offers Japan Excursions

To celebrate the October 2012 completion of Tokyo Station's renovation, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo has announced a range of “Enchanting Excursions” for guests to explore Japan. Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo’s unique position above Tokyo Station puts it at the heart of the city, and the "Enchanting Excursions" offers guests the opportunity to explore Japanese local tradition by supplementing their stay in Tokyo with bullet train journeys around the country.

Originally constructed in 1914 in distinctive European-style red brick and designed by architect Kingo Tatsuno, the iconic Tokyo Station building has had extensive renovation work, as well as the development of new commercial facilities, such as the high-end Daimaru Department Store. The Tokyo Station district, the access point for high-speed rail travel throughout the country, is expected to once again cement its place alongside the Imperial Palace, Marunouchi and the Ginza shopping area as one of the city’s prime destinations.

The "Express Explorations" one-day trips and “Overnight Opulence” stay options offer exclusive opportunities. Packages include trips to: Gion, where guests will partake in local traditions such as dining with entertainment provided by geisha; Hakone, a trip to bathe in the hot springs; and the Izu lagoon to relax in the onsen baths among the mountains of the Izu Peninsula.

The 200-room Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo opened in 2009 as Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts' first property in Japan. The hotel occupies the top 11 floors of the 37-floor, mixed-use Marunouchi Trust Tower Main building, located adjacent and with direct access to Tokyo Station, which serves as the terminus of the Shinkansen bullet train network that extends nationwide as well as the city’s railway hub that connects local train and subway lines with regional services. The hotel’s dining facilities include Piacere, a signature Italian restaurant; Nadaman, which serves authentic Japanese kaiseki cuisine; and The Lobby Lounge. CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La features ancient Chinese healing therapies and is the first CHI spa to open in Japan. CHI offers six treatment rooms that are the largest self-contained spa suites in Tokyo.

The hotel’s complimentary "Meet and Greet" service will escort guests directly to and from Tokyo Station’s platforms, where guests can catch a bullet train directly to the various parts of Japan. The Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo concierge can customize each excursion.

Excursions reservations will be available from 15 October.
