Small Luxury Hotels Expands New York City Portfolio

Small Luxury Hotels of the World has been expanding its New York City profile. By the end of 2013, Gotham will have three new hotels under the SLH banner—one of which opened in spring, one less than a month old and one that will open its doors just before Christmas.

WestHouse Hotel New York is set to open on December 23 in midtown Manhattan. We hear the hotel, which is meant to evoke the 1920's art deco style, tries to create an apartment-style vibe: Guests are called "residents," for example, guests check in from their rooms and butlers are available upon request. The boutique hotel is located on 55th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway, and is close to many New York City landmarks.

The Quin opened in mid-November 11 in a 17-story pre-War building that (we hear) was once home to musicians and painters as the Buckingham Hotel (think pianist/composer Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Metropolitan Opera greats Giuseppe De Luca and Giovanni Martinelli). VIPs will want to book the triplex Penthouse suite (which is also a good pick for receptions of up to 125 guests) and its two terraces (one for the guests, one for their friends). The hotel is located on the corner of 57th Street and Sixth Avenue.

Back in May, the Refinery Hotel New York opened in Midtown's fashionable Garment District, and we say it's a great pick for fashionistas who want to hit the nearby sample sales. We hear the main entrance evokes a fashion runway, while the the reception area has hat-making machinery re-purposed as custom art installations. (Other furniture is inspired by sewing machines and factory carts.) The hotel is located on 38th Street and Sixth Avenue.

Small Luxury Hotels now has six properties in New York City, with the above three joining the Hotel Chandler, the Inn at Irving Place and the Iroquois New York. Keep an eye on LuxuryTravelAdvisor.com to see what new properties join the group.
