Take a Seat: Singapore Airlines Introduces New Premium Seats

Singapore Airlines

Luxury Travel Advisor received a first-hand look at Singapore Airlines' new premium economy class seats, which will enter service in August.

The new additions follow a two-year, $80 million development program. Each seat has a width of either 18.5 or 19.5 inches, depending on the aircraft. The seats also have an eight-inch recline and a seat pitch of 38 inches (perfect for those long flights).

As for entertainment, there will be noise-cancelling headphones and a 13.3-inch HD monitor, which is the largest in its class.

Travelers will also be able to relax with full leather finishing, calf-rest and foot-bar for every seat. Business travelers will be happy to hear there will also be an in-seat power supply and two USB ports.

Other perks of booking these seats include priority check-in and baggage handling. Guests will also be given a baggage allowance of 77 pounds. Members of the KrisFlyer frequent-flyer program will also receive 10 percent more miles when they book Premium Economy Class.

Premium economy class will be introduced on 19 Airbus A380s, 19 Boeing 777-300ERs and the first 20 Airbus A350s. It will enter commercial service in early 2016 to Sydney, before being introduced to other destinations such as Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich.
