Naya Traveler Offers Stargazing Tours Throughout Latin America

Naya Traveler has unveiled its stargazing itineraries throughout Latin America. Destinations include Atacama Desert, Chile; Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia; Lake Titicaca, Peru; and Patagonia, Argentina.

With over 200 cloudless nights per year and a dry desert atmosphere with low air pollution, the northern region of Atacama Desert is ideal for stargazing. During the day, visitors can marvel at the lunar-esque landscape, complete with arid desert, salt flats, lagoons, volcanoes and the fruits of geothermal activity. Using Nayara Alto Atacama as a base, visitors can explore the Valle de la Luna by day and explore a series of observatories by night. On Saturdays, professional observatories are open to a limited number of guests, offering tours and astronomy lectures. During the guided visit, participants will be able to identify planets, colorful nebulae and other celestial bodies.

Bolivia is home to Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, covering an area of over 3,861 square miles at an altitude of 11,811 feet. A collection of six geodesic domes sitting at the foot of the Tunupa Volcano, Kachi Lodge offers visitors an opportunity to dwell in the white salt plains by day and enjoy stargazing by night.

The Andean Altiplano is considered one of the best places for stargazing in the Southern Hemisphere. Geographical factors such as its isolation, high altitude and dry climate all combine to offer clear skies, where one can view the constellations even with a naked eye. Stargazing in Peru is s also an experience that brings participants closer to the heart of ancient Incan civilization. Lake Titicaca holds great spiritual significance for the ancient Inca and the modern Quechua.

The Patagonian Steppe is known for its landscapes, yet on a cloudless winter night, nothing beats watching the Milky Way dance over the snow-capped peaks of the Andes and reflect on the glaciers. Guests can enjoy the comforts of Eolo—a property built on the land where the first Creole and European immigrants of the area initially set foot. They can trek across the Perito Moreno Glacier by day and watch the Southern constellations by night, guided by an astronomer.
