Sagres Vacations has introduced a new 10-day culinary tour, “A Taste of Portugal,” hosted by Michelin-starred chef George Mendes from August 29 to September 8, 2025. The immersive experience will take travelers on a journey through Portugal’s Alentejo, Algarve and Lisbon regions, combining the country’s culinary traditions with cultural exploration.
“A Taste of Portugal” offers a blend of cuisine, historic charm and the artistry of Portugal’s chefs and winemakers. Participants will enjoy two show-cooking sessions and workshops with Michelin-starred chefs, tour local wineries and dine at restaurants showcasing Portugal’s flavors. Beyond the plate, the tour includes visits to destinations including Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais and Évora, rounded off with an authentic fado concert, offering a deeper connection to Portuguese heritage.
Chef George Mendes has been instrumental in introducing Americans to Portuguese cuisine. Following the success of a culinary trip in 2019, Sagres Vacations and Chef Mendes will lead a second culinary journey to Portugal in August 2025.
In 2023, a record 1 million Americans visited Portugal, many for the first time. One of the biggest surprises for visitors was the food. Though Portugal remains an unexplored destination for many Americans, its cuisine is a consistent draw for visitors to the Western European country.
Established in 2013, Sagres Vacations is a destination expert for Portugal and Spain. Its team of itinerary designers creates custom, immersive experiences that highlight local culture and history.
