Seabourn is celebrating an important milestone in the construction process for Seabourn Pursuit, with the movement of the ship’s hull to the T. Mariotti shipyard in Genoa, Italy, for final outfitting. It is the line’s second purpose-built expedition ship scheduled to enter service in 2023.
The hull was moved onto a special barge on April 6 and began the 1,200-nautical-mile journey to Genoa on April 15. Seabourn Pursuit has been under construction at the CIMAR shipyard in San Giorgio di Nogaro and is already equipped with engines, generators and main equipment of the engine rooms.
Marco Ghiglione, managing director of T.Mariotti, said that Seabourn Pursuit, along with its sister ship, Seabourn Venture, will be an innovative addition to the cruise market.
Scheduled to launch in 2023, Seabourn Pursuit is being designed and built for diverse environments to PC6 Polar Class standards and will include modern hardware and technology that will extend the ship’s global deployment and capabilities. Seabourn Pursuit will provide the same luxury small-ship experience with the addition of equipment that allows the line to offer a range of expedition activities led by a 26-person team of scientists, scholars and naturalists, among others.
The ship will offer complimentary “Seabourn Expeditions” such as Zodiac cruises, hikes, nature walks, scuba diving and snorkeling, besides additional curated complimentary excursions. The ship will also offer optional shore excursions and optional “Seabourn Expeditions” with kayaking and two custom-built submersibles at select destinations.
