Drumlanrig Castle in Scotland has announced the completion of renovations at Montagu Cottage, a self-catering property set within the Queensberry Estate. Montagu Cottage is now available for guests seeking a retreat in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
Set beside Laundry Cottage, another of the estate’s popular self-catering properties, Montagu Cottage is just a short walk from the Drumlanrig Castle. The cottages, originally built in the early to mid-19th century, served as the estate’s laundry before being remodeled in 1871, and later converted into two separate cottages in 1924. Retaining their Category B listed status, these properties are an integral part of the estate’s history, blending heritage with contemporary comforts.
Montagu Cottage accommodates six guests across three bedrooms, including a king-size or twin room and two en-suite double bedrooms. Guests can unwind in the open-plan living and kitchen area, warmed by a double-fronted wood burner. The large family bathroom comes with a walk-in shower and a roll-top bath. Guests can also make use of the private garden with a patio, where they can soak in the views over the Nith Valley, while sheep and lambs roam just beyond the fence. Tip: The cottage is situated next to the estate’s walking network, making it an excellent base for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.
Good to know: Montagu Cottage also welcomes up to two dogs, making it well-suited for pet-friendly holidays. For larger groups, the property can be booked alongside the adjoining Laundry Cottage, which also accommodates six guests and has a large hot tub.
Montagu Cottage is an addition to the estate’s collection of three self-catering apartments and five holiday cottages. The estate introduced Queensberry Cottage to the collection in 2024. Additionally, situated on the estate and just 10 minutes’ drive from Drumlanrig Castle, is Dabton House. The exclusive-use venue, which sleeps 24 guests, opened in 2023 following a full renovation. It has 11 en-suite bedrooms and several reception areas in which to relax and dine.
From March to October, guests staying at any of the holiday houses on the estate can enjoy exclusive benefits, including free entry to the estate’s gardens and the Adventure Playground. A variety of additional experiences are available, including castle tours, e-bike hire, loch and river fishing, simulated game shooting and Scottish Assault Courses. The estate also hosts a range of events throughout the year.
