Romance

The Brando

The Brando

Tetiaroa, French Polynesia

When many travelers dream of romantic destinations, that ever-present over-the-water bungalow often springs to mind. None other than the long-anticipated The Brando, on the private island of Tetiaroa, has more embodied an eco-conscious luxury ideal.

This oasis, which Brando purchased in the 1960s, is his life dream realized. Not only is the palm-shaped spa enticing, but the spectacular, three-mile wide lagoon takes your breath away.

One of the secluded 35 villas is sure to delight with private pools among the must-have romantic amenities.

Adventure

Polihale Beach

Kauai, HI

Ready for adventure? The longest white-sand beach in Hawaii, Polihale Beach in Kauai, is where you need to be. To reach it, drive past the town of Waimea to Polihale State Park on the southwest part of the island. To actually reach the beach you will have to travel down a dirt road for about five miles.

Don’t be discouraged -- our low-to-the-ground rental car made it down the dirt road just fine, but it was a slow and bumpy journey. However, the rough ride was well worth the view of miles of white beach, rolling blue waves and the occasional surfer (there wasn’t another tourist in sight). Note: In the winter months the south part of the island has less rough currents and water than during the summer. However, always check the safety of the water before jumping into the waves.

Just for the Weekend

Ocean Point

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort

St. Maarten

This all-suite resort sits on the southernmost point of the island, adjacent to the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino, offering some incredible views of the beach and the commercial airplanes that fly past it.

After a multimillion dollar renovation to the former Ocean Terrace building, the 129-room Sonesta Ocean Point emerged as a sophisticated, adults-only, all-inclusive resort. Guests also get access to a one-mile, white-sand beach at sister resorts in Great Bay and Philipsburg.
