ASTA Opens Enrollment for New Member Health Plan

The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) has opened enrollment for its new member health insurance plan.  The organization reports that it has finalized the details of its partnership with Association Health Programs (AHP), allowing it to offer the new benefit to members.

ASTA announced its intention to launch the new health insurance plan in October, noting at the time that it had been a popular request from its members for several years. The plan is available to ASTA members and their families in 38 states, including ASTA-member independent contractors. Due to state law, the plan is not yet available in Maine, California, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

In addition to health insurance, ASTA members can also purchase other types of insurance coverage through the plan, such as dental, vision, disability, life, accident, long-term care and Medicare supplements. The organization says that its beta testers have reported insurance premium savings of up to 40 percent.

At the time of the initial announcement, ASTA had said that a plan of this kind had been a frequent request of its members over the past several years, as it could allow individuals and small business owners to obtain coverage at group rates much more favorable than if purchased individually.
