Former Norwegian CEO: The Rebirth of the Travel Industry Is Coming

Former Norwegian Cruise Line president and CEO Andy Stuart does not see the travel industry returning to the past. Instead, he sees a new normal coming. He was asked by Signature Travel Network to offer its advisors his vision of the future of the industry, along with a “needed dose of adrenaline to get us all to the finish line.” His sentiments were shared with Luxury Travel Advisor.

Here’s what he had to say:

Stuart says he has been impressed with the industry’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how quickly its members developed a plan to outlast it—although it’s lasting much longer than anyone envisioned. When looking beyond the pandemic, he feels that as part of the “rebirth of the travel industry,” few people can be sure what their individual place and role will be. He adds that while this uncertainly may be frustrating now, it presents an opportunity for travel advisors.

As for what that could be? The most important step is to define your own passion and purpose, Stuart says. In doing this you will find your “why”—why you work and what you want to do with your life. Stuart adds that this is the time to redefine your role in the reconfigured travel world. You should search for where you will find joy as the industry opens again.

“We all love this industry but that bright shining light will offer new opportunities, new roles that will help you see your purpose,” he says. “Don’t jump back on the treadmill; those who really look at what brings them joy will be the winners as the world reshapes itself.”

He also challenged advisors to be prepared for what the future may bring. “What is your personal plan to drive success to capitalize on the pent-up demand that we all know is there?  How will you increase your knowledge, your expertise to make you the best prepared, most knowledgeable advisor coming out of this crisis?” he says. “Do your due diligence now to become the person you want to be.”
