Since last year, the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority (Visit Monaco) has wanted North Americans to know that the principality missed them more than ever and kept in touch with the message: “Take care of yourself, we miss you!” The good news: Travelers from North America can again visit the city-state, following France’s reopening on June 9.
Here’s what you need to know:
Since Monaco is located in French territory and does not have its own airport (the closest is Nice Côte d'Azur Airport), any rules that apply to enter France also apply to Monaco. As of last week, foreign citizens can travel to France depending on their vaccination status and the health situation of their country. The United States, according to the Consulate General of France in New York is classified in the “orange” category. This means, if you are vaccinated, upon boarding, each traveler aged 11 years or older must present a negative PCR test taken less than 72 hours before the flight or a negative antigenic test taken less than 48 hours before the flight. (Those without a vaccination can only travel if you have “pressing grounds” and must self-isolate for seven days.)
To enter Monaco from France, travelers must show their negative PCR test from within 72 hours of arrival or a negative antigenic test from within 48 hours.
This all said, Monaco does still have restrictions in place, including a curfew from midnight to 6 a.m., specific conditions for restaurants open for lunch and dinner (including compulsory reservations and a maximum table size of eight), theatres and casinos operating at 70 percent capacity, and wearing a mask in public spaces, among others. Not to be missed this summer is the newly renovated Larvotto beach and boardwalk, reopening on July 3. Summer festivities include the 60th Monte-Carlo Television Festival June 18-22; the inaugural Monaco Streaming Film Festival July 3-6; the Grimaldi Forum Monaco’s summer art exhibition “Alberto Giacometti – A Retrospective. Marvelous Reality” from July 3 to August 29; a new format of the annual Monaco Red Cross Ball, including an outdoor concert by jazz-pop singer Jamie Cullum on the recently renovated Casino Square on July 16; summer concerts by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in the Princely Palace Courtyard; the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival, with high-profile musicians in the Salle des Etoiles; and—last but not least— the exclusive annual Monaco Yacht Show September 22-25.
