A Peek at the Redesigned Jim Thompson Silk Villa at Anantara Mai Khao Phuket

Earlier this year, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas unveiled the newly designed Two-Bedroom Royal Villa by Jim Thompson. Situated on the island’s northwest coast, the beach resort comprises 91 luxurious pool villas just steps from Mai Khao beach and the Andaman Sea, surrounded by lush landscaping by famed designer Bill Bensley.

The resort’s two-bedroom villas are already known for their authentic local design, showcasing silks from the Jim Thompson Collection. But the newly designed villa—a sprawling two-bedroom crash pad—takes it a step further with a lavish use of the luxury textiles; this is the first suite to be fully dedicated to his silk collection.

American businessman Jim Thompson is renowned for his work revitalizing the Thai silk industry in the mid-20th century, bringing it back from “the brink of extinction” (to quote Time magazine). His legacy lives on to this day and his house in Bangkok is a popular tourist site.

Here are the details about Anantara’s Two Bedroom Royal Villa by Jim Thompson: Designed for a family or group of friends, this expansive villa reflects a rich Thai heritage with carvings, artwork and traditional design. Needless to say, the fabrics are a showstopper; the living room is done up in blue and white for a nautical feel, while the Master Bedroom is decorated with the print called Jim Thompson’s Heliconia Dreamin’—named for the flower that blossoms at Thompson’s former home. Both bedrooms open onto the private pool and sun deck; there’s also a traditional Thai sala floating over the lagoon. Bathrooms have terrazzo bathtubs and a complimentary set of the Bvlgari Guest Collection, along with Anantara spa products.
